Hampton Senior High School offers a variety of dance programs in order
to cater to the needs of all students. Dance is a prominent component
of the Arts Learning Area and has been taught at Hampton Senior High School
for nearly 30 years. The programs are run and taught by experienced and
successful staff with extensive dance backgrounds including training and
graduating from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts, as well
as dance specialists for specific genres. The Dance programs include:
• The specialised Gifted and Talented Dance Program
• Urban MoovZ (Boys MoovZ & Girls MoovZ)
• PEAC dance (currently)
Urban Moovz
The Urban Moovz course is available to students in Years 9 and 10 who
do not participate in the Gifted & Talented dance program. It is a
fun and energetic dance course in which students learn the styles of Hip-Hop
and break-dance to create and perform dance routines.
Boys Moovz
This is a boys only ‘B-boying’ course in which boys are given the
opportunity to learn the skills of this dance style in a boys only environment.
Male tutors are used to teach the students various ‘b-boy’
skills such as power moves, popping and locking, as well as the basics.
Students are taught choreography using these skills which are performed
at various dance concerts.
Girls Moovz
This is a girls only dance course in which girls are given the opportunity
to learn the skills of hip-hop dance in a girls only environment. Specialist
tutors are used to teach the students various skills such as body isolations
and routines which are performed in various dance concerts.
PEAC
This is a dance program for primary school students in Grades 5 –
7. There is a class for boys and a class for girls. Students learn about
a wide range of danc styles from Latin, contemporary, hip-hop and acrobatics.
Any interested students should ask their primary school teacher how to
become involved.
