ICT

Hampton is a DET specialist ICT school.  The new ICT centre which opened in 2005 boasts three modern computer studios and an open learning area and skills centre.

Each studio has 25 modern computer systems, scanning and printing facilities and a digital projector.  The large work central area away from the perimeter facilitates group work and class discussions.  Headphones, microphones, digital cameras, graphics tablets and four new tablet PCs are available for use when required.

Laptop computers are available in the central multipurpose area of the ICT centre for small groups of students. The wireless option makes this a flexible option for students and teachers. This is proving a popular choice for some upper school classes and there are plans to expand this facility in the future.

Hampton is only one of a very small group of high schools who deliver the CISCO curriculum to students who have a specialized interest in the networking area.  The school has invested in a dedicated computer laboratory to teach PC Hardware and Software in Yr 10 (IT Essentials) and CCNA 1 and 2 in Yr 11 and Yr 12.

The skills centre opened in 2007 and is staffed by one of Yr 12 students on two days a week with plans for expansion in 2008.  This student is enrolled in the VET Business Course doing a Certificate II in Business and Structured Workplace Learning.  One of the main tasks undertaken by the skills centre is the production of the school’s in-house newsletter Interface.

In addition to the ICT facilities in the centre computing technology is also spread across the school.

Hampton was chosen by the Department of Education to participate in the Single Gender Project.  This involves separate girls and boys class in the ICT area only in Yr 8.
