Applied English and Humanities

The ability to respond, debate, argue, elaborate and apply knowledge and understanding through high level critical thinking skills is essential. This new program in Years 7 and 8 has been designed to extend, engage and enrich student interest in the areas of English and HaSS.

 

The Applied English and Humanities Program enhances the educational experience of students by giving them access to opportunities such as debating teams, “Write a Book in a Day”, public speaking and writing competitions and many other experiences.

 

This program pathway leads to Years 9 and 10 English and/or HaSS Extension

The Year 7 Program

The ability to respond, debate, argue, elaborate and apply knowledge and understanding through high level critical thinking skills is essential. This new program in Years 7 and 8 has been designed to extend, engage and enrich student interest in the areas of English and HaSS.

The Applied English and Humanities Program enhances the educational experience of students by giving them access to opportunities such as debating teams, “Write a Book in a Day”, public speaking and writing competitions and many other experiences.

This program pathway leads to Years 9 and 10 English and/or HaSS Extension.

The Year 8 Program

These cross curricular selective programmes are targeted at students who may aspire to extension courses in Years 9 and 10, and ATAR or high level General and VET courses in Years 11 and 12.

With an emphasis on aptitude, attitude, willingness to explore ideas, students will be selected from workshop participation, Year 6 and 7 progress and achievement (grades) and attitude, behaviour and effort indicated by their teachers. Teachers will differentiate curriculum material where appropriate to extend, enrich and engage student learning.

Students will benefit from being exposed to a differentiated curriculum designed to stimulate and develop the individual’s skills in inquiry, analytical and critical thinking, communication and creativity. There will be opportunity to enter into individual and team entry competitions e.g., debating, Write a Book in a Day and public speaking arenas.
