Hampton SHS offers an extensive and exciting range of Arts courses, catering for both the Creative Studio Arts and Performing Arts. The Arts learning area team constantly promotes a culture of aspiration and success. With the biennial arts festival and annual art exhibition, dance and drama events, we present numerous opportunities for students to work toward specific performance goals and to create and showcase their own art works. The high standard of work produced in the arts promotes a positive and proactive school. With the inclusion of the Gifted and Talented Dance Program and the Specialist Performing Arts Drama and Specialist Cheer Dance programs (see Specialist Program pages for further information), Hampton provides quality education leading to enhanced student performance via excellence in teaching practice. Year 7 and Year 8
Entering Year 7 students are able to access the Gifted and Talented Dance program or the Specialist Performing Arts (Drama) or Cheer Dance programs through successful application in year 6. Students not enrolled in a Specialist program will have the opportunity to study both the Creative Studio Arts and the Performing Arts each semester in both Year 7 and Year 8. Throughout each year the Arts learning area team work collaboratively across a select theme or topic, allowing students to extend their creative processes through the different arts areas.
In the Creative Studio Arts students study both visual and media arts. This could include, 2D drawing and painting, 3D sculpture and ceramics, photography and film. In Performing Arts students study both dance/movement and drama and work on developing their own creative ideas through movement tasks and self devised scripts.
Year 9 and Year 10
Students can elect to study a range of different arts courses in years 9 and 10. Semester long courses in General Dance (Dare to Dance), General Drama, Media, Photography and Visual Art provide students with pathways into Year 11 and 12 General and ATAR courses. Students can also elect to study a particular focus area year long, by choosing the elective in both semesters. Students in these courses are provided with opportunities to present their works to audiences.
Media students are offered the opportunity to record images on film, learning the processes of editing, special effects and sound. A dynamic Visual Arts environment provides students with opportunities to create artworks over a range of disciplines including painting, printmaking, graphics, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery and textiles.
A Certificate II in Live Production and Services will be offered to Year 10 students interested in working behind the scenes in the theatre.
